The School of Graphic Design at the London College of Communication at the University of the Arts London, is divided into broad 5 disciplines: Information design, Design for Advertising, Typo/graphics, Illustration and Design for Interaction and Moving Image.

I thought Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk would be interesting to design a cover for because I could take the subject and look at the story from different angles. Through my research I took the angle of anti consumerism, as the story is not only about fighting. I wanted to take this idea of anti consumerism and look at it from a less obvious angle. As the story is about secrecy and membership I decided I wanted to make a package to place the book inside with this idea of the book being ‘hidden’. From investigating into consumerism I decided to focus on the barcode as a symbol to represent consumerism. I designed a symbol, which is a broken barcode that would suggest anti consumerism by breaking the symbol and breaking consumerism. With this symbol I designed membership cards, which will be inside the package alongside a poster providing the ‘rules’. The idea behind this was to make a secret membership package.
